What AI detector do teachers ACTUALLY use? (I need to scan my paper before they do) 🕵️‍♂️

I have a 10-page research paper due on Friday and I used AI to help with the outline and some paragraphs (rewrote most of it, but still paranoid). My syllabus just says "AI checks will be performed" but doesn't say WHICH tool.

I want to pre-scan my essay to make sure I’m safe. Does anyone know what website do teachers use to check for ai in 2026? Is it mostly Turnitin? GPTZero? CopyLeaks? I tried a free online checker and it said 0% AI, but another one said 40%. I need to know exactly what ai detector do teachers use so I can beat THAT specific one. 😭

I’m a TA (Teaching Assistant). 99% of universities use Turnitin. It’s built into Canvas/Blackboard. When you submit your file, it automatically runs a similarity report AND an AI writing report. We don't "choose" a website to check for AI, the LMS (Learning Management System) does it for us automatically. So if your school uses Canvas, it's probably Turnitin.

@ta_confessions The problem is students can't access Turnitin themselves to pre-check! It's so unfair. @paranoid_android If you can't use Turnitin, the closest thing to their algorithm is probably Originality.ai (paid) or GPTZero (free version available). But honestly, they all hallucinate. I got flagged for a paper I wrote 100% manually.

It’s not just software. How can teachers tell if you use ai? My prof told us he doesn't even look at the detector score first. He looks at:

"In conclusion" at the start of the last paragraph.

Perfect grammar but zero substance.

Lack of specific citations. If you have those, he runs it through the checker just to confirm.

Honestly, trying to guess the detector is a losing game because they update them every week. My strategy isn't "checking", it's "humanizing". I run my draft through https://edubrain.ai/ (they have a rewriter tool) specifically to break the AI sentence patterns. It changes the structure enough that most detectors (Turnitin included) get confused and give it a low score. Better to prevent the flag than try to check for it later.
