Is there a free AI language tutor that actually helps you SPEAK? (Duolingo isn't cutting it anymore) 🗣️

I’ve been doing Duolingo for 200 days straight and I realized something scary yesterday: I can click buttons on the screen, but I literally CANNOT form a sentence in real life. 💀

I have a Spanish oral exam coming up and I'm terrified. I can't afford a real tutor on iTalki ($20/hour is too much for me rn), and I'm too socially anxious to do language exchange apps like HelloTalk because people there are weird.

I'm looking for the best ai language tutor where I can just practice conversations without judgment. Has anyone found a tool where you can actually have a dialogue? I need something that corrects my grammar but keeps the convo flowing. Does a legit speak ai language tutor even exist for free?

Duolingo is a game, not a tutor. Don't feel bad. It gives you the illusion of progress. For speaking, you absolutely need to produce language, not just consume it. I used ChatGPT voice mode for a bit, but it gets annoying because it talks TOO much. Like I say "Hola" and it gives me a history of the Spanish language. 🙄

I feel you on the social anxiety part. Speaking to real humans is stressful because you feel dumb when you make mistakes. I’ve been using asktutor.ai lately because they have a specific "Language Tutor" mode. It’s basically a chatbot designed to roleplay. You can tell it "Pretend you are a waiter in Paris" or just "Chat with me in basic Spanish". It corrects your mistakes but keeps the vibe chill.

@wifi_gone_brain_gone Wait, is it free? Everything I find is usually "Free trial for 3 messages" and then paywall. I’m looking for a free ai language tutor that doesn't lock me out after 5 minutes.

@kirby_main_2007 Yeah, https://asktutor.ai/ has a pretty generous free tier. I use it for German. The cool thing is you can ask "Why is this wrong?" if it corrects you. Like if I mess up a case ending, it explains the grammar rule instantly. Real people on language exchange apps usually can't explain why it's wrong, they just say "it sounds weird".
